Mockup of a landscape

Simmel (1858-1918) says that landscape is a singularity that provokes the gaze when it divides and isolate into different units, extracting from the chaotic, a part: ’The landscape appears at a certain distance. In front of which our gaze can gather the elements in different ways, modify the accents, displace the center and the limits’. Its experience (of the landscape) is transcendent and that has no form, no limits. My reflection is that to understand things (in their being) it is necessary to separate them in order to reunite them, to weave them, and in that interweaving, men and women invent an order that does not exist in nature per se, creating ‘rules of nature’ that help us to understand what is experienced emotionally.

This project proposes to reflect on the elements present in a landscape, its order and the feeling when we experienced them. On the symbolic or emotional meaning given to an element or a material, by its nature, structure, color and/or form and on the cultural construction of the term landscape. It uses the mockup as a conceptual work tool because it helps to represent an idea. It materializes the idea-landscape on a reduced scale and its combinations build relationships that the poetic look differs. It does not hide its playful attitude that comes, like any game, with its rules. Its elements are: the space or the base that marks transcendent directions, the circular and triangular shapes and the stones themselves with shapes, colors and materials and at its limits, the horizon.

They’re ephemeral sculptures. Abstractions of local landscapes. They carry stones with landscapes on them, the same to which the stones belong. It is a series with variable measurements and displays.
